ECA executive committee

Pam Langmead (Chair)

Pam Langmead

In June 2003 I joined the Local Authority Clerking Agency and currently clerk two Governing Bodies as well as managing (and clerking for) the Essex Primary Heads’ Association.

As part of my job as a tutor for Essex Governor Services I run the Clerks’ Induction training in the county and I am an assessor for the national BTEC Award for Clerks.

Chris Orme (Vice-Chair)

Prior to retirement I worked for Essex County Council for nearly 40 years – most of that time working with school governing bodies.

I have been clerking governing body meetings since 1971 and I am currently clerk to the governors for twelve schools, working both for the Essex Clerking Agency and privately. I clerk Governing Body meetings and for committees in many of the schools.

Sue Julian-Ottie (Secretary)

In my former life, I was an information specialist in museums! I gave that up after my youngest child was born and started clerking in 2005. Being one of those sad people that love documentation, I found that I really enjoyed clerking and regarded it as a natural extension of my previous experience. In 2007 I undertook and achieved the Clerks’ BTEC award. I now clerk for two schools and serve as Board Secretary for the Billericay Community Trust.

Rosemary Waddell (Treasurer)

Rosemary was elected as treasurer at the Annual General Meeting on 31 March 2010. Please contact Rosemary at rosemary_waddell@tiscali.co.uk

Peter Bates (Thurrock representative)

I've worked in local government for many years, first with Essex County Council and then, until retirement in May 2009, with Thurrock Council, where I was Governor Support Officer. I have a passionate belief in the stakeholder model of governance and the important work that governors - and clerks - do. I have been Clerk to Governing Bodies for more years than I care to remember - including for a period before the 1988 Educations Reform Act! - and at the end of my service with Thurrock was Clerk to five Governing Bodies and two IEBs (Interim Executive Boards).

Chris Kitchin (West Essex representative)

Chris Kitchin – West Area Representative and Acting Treasurer (Spring 2010)

I joined the Essex Clerking Agency about 2 years ago having worked as a teacher and lecturer before setting up my own educational consultancy. I continue to work for an Examination Body as an External Verifier/Writer and Trainer. I currently clerk for about 12 schools and would be happy to be "shadowed" by a new Clerk.

Julia Harvey (Mid Essex representative)

I started clerking the committees at a special needs school in Bocking in 2004, then became the Clerk to the Governors at a Braintree Secondary school in 2008. I am now clerk at a fantastic special needs school in Chelmsford. In 2007 I undertook and achieved the Clerks' Btec Award. I have clerked more permanent exclusions than is decent, but am lucky enough not to have had to clerk a staff disciplinary hearing! I am looking forward to working on the ECA Executive, representing colleagues in Mid Essex.

Steve Islip (Southend representative)

I started clerking Essex Governing Bodies in the mid 1970’s and became a full time clerk working in Basildon and Thurrock in 2002. I currently clerk 15 schools.

Over the last 6 years I have grown my own fully integrated Governing Body information system, based on MS Access. I’m a professional administrator (ICSA) and successfully passed the national BTEC Award for Clerks in 2007.
