From time to time the Clerk to the Governors may be asked to clerk a staff disciplinary meeting at their school. This can be a daunting prospect for any clerk, and it is important to feel confident about the requirements of the role.
The ECA has produced helpful guidance which covers:
Ø Arrangements the Governing Body should have in place prior to any proceeding;
Ø What the Clerk needs to do in advance of a hearing;
Ø The hearing itself – what to expect and the clerk’s role;
Ø Taking notes – what to include and what’s important;
Ø What the Clerk is required to do following a hearing.
